Empty Medicine Bottle Reuse Program

Appalachian State University’s Office of Sustainability is collecting empty, used medicine bottles for reuse at the local Hunger and Health Coalition pharmacy.

Empty medicine bottles can be dropped off in the lobby of the Office of Sustainability Monday–Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you have leftover medication, this can be disposed of properly at the following locations:

  • App State Police Department (7 days a week, 24 hours a day)
  • Blowing Rock Police Department (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.)
  • Boone Police Department (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.)
  • Watauga County Sheriff's Office (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.)

If you take leftovers to any of these locations, please empty the medication into a sealed bag before disposing of the medicine, remove identification labels from the bottle(s), and then bring or send the empty bottles to us.

Items that can be disposed of include prescriptions, cold and flu medications, pain relievers, cough syrups, topical ointments, vitamins and pet medications.
