Defining Sustainability since 1899

Sustainability in the Arts

Whether the goal is to bring awareness to environmental or social issues, affect change through a visual medium, or express sadness and anger over the state of the world, the arts are an integral part of sustainability. At Appalachian, we are fortunate to have a vibrant community of artists who are inspired by and connected to our natural environment.

There are also arts-focused grants available through the Sustainability Council. In the past, grants have been awarded to projects such as integrative theater, somatic sustainability and dance, musical collaborations, sculptural explorations, photography exhibits, and journalistic pieces. For more information about the requirements and deadlines for these grants, contact Alice Gryder in the Office of Sustainability.
