Global Engagement

Volunteer and sustainability opportunities through Appalachian State are available not just on our campus, but worldwide.

Through the Office of International Education and Development, there are various ways for students, faculty, staff, and community members to become a more rounded global citizens and help make Appalachian a truly international experience. These include a monthly global exchange, which includes music, food, and dance from around the world, and the International Friendship Program, which connects families and individuals from Watauga County with international students and scholars from the university.

Appalachian’s five-year Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) topic is called “Global Learning: A World of Opportunities for Appalachian Students.” Through “Global Learning,” students at Appalachian will engage in diverse experiences at home and abroad to increase their knowledge of global issues, regions, and cultures, improve their intercultural skills, and develop attitudes that cultivate global citizenship.
