Degree Programs
Appalachian State University’s leadership in sustainability education can be traced back to more than 40 years. Appropriate Technology (Sustainable Technology) began in 1978 as Earth Studies and has been taught continuously since, being formalized as a degree program in 1984. The university also houses the nation’s longest running Sustainable Development Program, established in 1991.
Today, Appalachian's dedicated faculty and staff are even more committed to providing students with a holistic view of sustainability to meet present and future students needs.
